Sorry for the lack of blog posts lately. I was swamped with work and planning my birthday festivities last week. I promise to be a better blogger this summer though :)

Happy Birthday Blog

My blog turns 1 year old today! I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who continue to loyally read GypsyMe. This blog is a way of expressing myself through my passion for writing and my insatiable appetite for life. I write about traveling the world, meeting fascinating people, fashion trends I pass on the street, regal events I manage to sneak into, love stories, my published work, projects I'm involved with as well as the films and music that give me goosebumps.

Most have already noticed GypsyMe is not topic-specific and this is for the simple reason that life doesn't just have one genre. There are far too many unique and beautiful things that come into my life and I don't mind breaking the blogging rules so I can write about them all in one place.

Whether you read my blog weekly, monthly, skim through the posts and stop only at the topics you fancy or simply just look at the pictures, know that I greatly appreciate your support. I would love for all - be it a family member, friend, acquaintance or even a complete stranger somewhere in the world who enjoys reading what I write about - to become an official follower of my blog. Downtown From Behind

Currently a favourite site of mine, downtownfrombehind is an outlet that features creative people in a creative way. It's a photographic project capturing subjects riding their bicycles from a rear view on more than 200 streets, avenues and lanes in downtown New York City. Each post includes the photo, persons name, occupation and street name.

"The concept is an environmental portrait for each street and its subject. The goal is to highlight a unique set of individuals who have an impact, previously or currently on downtown New York City, making downtown what it is today." It's also a great way for artists, actors, models, musicians, stylists and even restaurateurs to showcase their true colours. I love scrolling through the photos and trying to guess occupations beforehand. I'm getting pretty good at the game.

Escape into the oasis that is the weekend. After all, weekends were invented to snuggle in a cozy bed, have romantic dinners on floating docks, build forts and catch up on reading and blogging in the most dreamy of places. Enjoy these pictures that I could easily see myself escape into.

My Blog

I went to check my e-mail this morning and this is what happened...

So I posted this...

People often ask where I get all my random information to blog about. It's simple actually. I love to meet new people and talk to strangers. There are so many interesting people out there with the most interesting things to say. Listen to others, appreciate their stories and embrace the unique things that make them who they are. I also choose to surround myself with wonderful friends who are inspirational and motivating. By eliminating all the negative people from my life's Rolodex, there leaves only room for those who help me grow.

I also walk everywhere. I have a car, but hardly use it now that I live in the city. If you walk around your neighbourhood and become more perceptive of your surroundings, the realization that the world really is a beautiful place will quickly become apparent. For instance, ever notice the art and messages in graffiti or in window displays just by walking down an ordinary street? I always do.

I love window shopping and appreciate the creativity that goes into making the window display of a boutique, a shop or even a bakery. When I find a really fabulous one, I stop and marvel at it. My friend, Jane, and I were walking home from her yoga studio one day and she noticed my curiosity with the occasional artistic window. She took note and swore to start noticing the things around her that day. She lives on Ossington Avenue which is full of artistic expression, designers and trendy spots although she realized her busy schedule hindered her from paying attention to the simple things (such as window displays) on her route home. I can only hope she's taking the time to indulge in all the pretty windows out west right now :)

Perhaps we should all look around, be curious and have a conversation with a beautiful stranger once in awhile. It's really quite harmless and could possibly start an epidemic of gypsy blogs everywhere! What a wonderful world that would be.
